How does magnetic shock absorber works?
This type of suspension was installed for the first time in 2002 on the Cadillac Seville STS by GM. And then was embedded on the many others cars including the Chevrolet and Buick. This production was unveiled by Audi Company in R8 and TT models in Germany. A factor that has distinguished this type of suspension from other is the absence of any electro-mechanical valve. Instead it, the magnetic suspension is designed based on magnetic rheological fluid (MR). This fluid is a smart fluid that works directly with magnetic. MR fluid is usually like oil and is filled by fine magnet particles in the size of micro-meter range. When this smart fluid is influenced by the magnetic field, the fluid's viscosity increases, so that it also called viscoelastic solid. Each MR fluid has 20 to 40% iron averagely, which are suspended in a mineral oil foundation. Also this fluid is carrier of kinetics oil, water and glycol. In this type of fluid, some fine particles are applied that prevents the pr...
